After doing significant trauma work this client noticed she was still very anxious. We began to discuss diet and nutrition and the benefits of a ketogenic diet not only for her diabetes and breast cancer history but her anxiety. We did psychoeducation on the links between high blood sugar and mood disorders. We worked together with her prescriber to procure a CGM so she could see the relationship between what she ate and how she felt. At the end of the process, the client reported having more energy and much less anxiety. The client no longer met the criteria for clinically significant anxiety and continues to use diet and nutrition as needed to modulate her mood.

“I began to make the connection between my lifestyle and how it added to my depression and constant sense of exhaustion. Using dietary therapy for my mental health was a monumental act of self-care and self-love, and allowed me to feel strong in moving forward with my life. “ – Middle-aged, Female; Anxiety, Acute PTSD
